How to connect two sets of Airpods to one iPhone

Apple did something fantastic in its iOS 13 release. It allows you to pair two different sets of AirPods to a single iPhone.

This is simply incredible as it allows you to listen to audios, videos, podcasts, and others with your friend, spouse, or colleague at the same time from a single device. The good thing about this is that it is not hard to set this up. If you want to have this set up on your devices, follow the steps below:

Step 1:

Upgrade your device to iOS 13. This feature will not work in any other lower version of iOS.

Step 2:

Connect the first Airpod to the iPhone and tap on ‘Done’ when you finish the pairing process.

Step 3:

Bring the second Airpod you want to connect close to the iPhone and then open the lids of the charging case. Watch out for a prompt telling you if you want to Temporarily share Audio or connect to an iPhone.

Step 4:

Tap on Temporarily share audio. After doing this, you will get a prompt to press and hold the button at the back of the Airpod charging case.

Step 5:

You will get a notification that the guest pair is connected. Tap Done when it finishes connecting.

Step 6:

The two Airpods are now connected. You both can now listen to the same audio and video content simultaneously.

10 things you have to know about Airpods

1. The status light in the Airpod charging case

When you open the lid of the Airpod case, you will see a light in the middle of it. The function of the light is to indicate the charge status of the Airpods when they are inside the charging case or the charge status of the charging case when no Airpod is plugged in.

The status light has three different colours. Green, Amber, and white. The Greenlight is an indicator that the device is fully charged. Amber indicates that the battery level is less than the full charge.

When the device is flashing white, it indicates that the Airpod is ready for pairing for a device. When the Amber light is shining, it is an indicator that you have to reconnect the device again.

2.  Connecting your Airpods with a Non-Apple device

It is also possible to connect an Airpod to a non-apple device like your Android phone or non-apple computers. There is a small flushing button at the back of the Airpod that will be helpful for connecting to non-apple devices. To do this follow the following steps.

  • Put the Airpod inside the charging case and keep the lids open.
  • Press the flush button at the back of the charging case until it starts blinking white.
  • Navigate to the Bluetooth setting on the non-apple device. You should see the Airpod on the list of devices ready for connection.
  • Tap on the Airpod and wait for a few seconds for the connections to complete.

Note: Features like Automatic Ear Detection which enables the Airpods to stop playing when you take the AirPods out of your ears will not function in non-apple devices.

3.  How to Change the Name of your Airpod

By default, if your name is Anderson, the name of your Airpod will be ‘Anderson’s Airpod’. However, it is possible to change this default name. To do this follow the following steps:

  • Tap on the ‘i’ symbol beside the name of the Airpod

By default, when you receive a call, the Airpod automatically decides which of the two microphones to use for the call. The choice of which microphone to use is decided by some algorithm which is beyond the scope of this article.

There are times you may want to choose either the left or right Airpod Mic as your preferred choice for making calls. To do this, follow the following steps:

  • Go to the Airpod setting and tap Bluetooth.
  • Tap the ‘i’ beside the name of the Airpods.
